Too many attempts and other rate limits

Ringer slows repeated tries to protect accounts and keep texts honest. Every limit clears on its own; this table says how long to wait

Short answer. A limit message means you, or someone sharing your connection, did the same thing many times in a short window. Nothing is broken and nothing is lost. Wait out the window in the table, then try once more.

Why it happens

Limits sit on anything that could be abused by a script or that costs money to send: sign-in, password resets, texts, and the photo readers. Most are counted per account or per invite link; a few are counted per connection, so a whole clubhouse on one Wi-Fi network can share a limit.

Good to know

  • Waiting does not reset the count early; the window has to pass.
  • If you hit a sign-in limit because you cannot remember the password, stop guessing and use Forgot password?. One reset email beats ten attempts.
  • If you keep hitting "Too many attempts." on a new phone and you are sure you have not been retrying, email support@ringer.golf with the time and the screen you were on.
