Ringer's words, in Ringer's spelling.

  1. Help
  2. Glossary

Short answer. Ringer uses plain golf words wherever it can. This table gives the few that have a precise meaning in the app, from allowance to week.

TermMeaning
AllowanceThe percentage of a Course Handicap a game gives, from 1 to 200. Presets are 100, 95, 90, 85, 80 and 75, and each game has its own default.
BankerA settlement choice. Everyone antes into a pot held by one player, who pays the winners out of it. Direct wagers still settle player to player.
Big ScreenThe full-screen rotating board for a clubhouse TV or a cart, opened from Manage. No login needed.
BoardThe live leaderboard for a round, with a tab for each game in play. Also called the Leaderboard.
CarryoverIn Skins, a tied hole's skin rolling forward to the next outright winner. Off unless the Commissioner turns it on.
Closest to the Pin, Longest DriveContests with a per-player entry. Every player marked in contributes, and the recorded winner takes the pot.
ClubA golf club or facility on Ringer. Clubs hold Communities such as leagues and crews.
Co-organizerA helper the host names, with the same management powers. Up to two per outing. Also called a Co-Commissioner.
CommissionerThe person who runs an outing or a league: games, groups, tees, money and publishing results. Also called the host or organizer.
Course HandicapYour index converted to the tee you play: Index × (Slope ÷ 113) + (Rating − Par).
Course strokesThe net option where every golfer receives their full Playing Handicap.
CrewYour regular group of friends, saved so you can add them to a round without retyping.
Direct settle-upThe Individual settlement choice: losers pay winners directly, netted into the fewest payments.
Direct wagerA bet paid player to player rather than from a pot: Match Play, Nassau, per-skin Skins, 9-Point, Sixes and Trash.
EntryThe per-player stake into a pooled pot, also called the buy-in. The pot is the entry times the players.
FollowWatching a round live without scoring: the board link, or on iPhone the Follow Live Lock Screen activity.
Frozen handicapThe index, tee and strokes copied into a round the moment it goes live. Later changes need an explicit correction.
GHINThe USGA handicap service. Ringer keeps a GHIN number as a reference only and reads your index from a screenshot of your GHIN card.
GrossActual strokes, no handicap.
GroupA tee group with one tee time and one scorekeeper. Distinct from a team.
GuestA player with no Ringer account: a name and, if given, a handicap.
Handicap IndexYour standing index to one decimal, such as 7.5 or +2. It belongs to you, not to a round.
Invite codeA code from a member that unlocks a waitlisted account.
Invite linkThe one link a host shares for a round. It opens the RSVP page, the board and the results without a login.
LeagueA Community that plays a season of weekly rounds with standings.
NassauThree bets in one, front nine, back nine and the 18, each worth the stake. Presses are extra bets.
NetGross less the handicap strokes received.
Net double bogeyA per-hole cap of par + 2 + the strokes you receive on that hole. It applies to the game math, not to what you enter.
Off lowThe lowest-handicap player in the game plays off zero and everyone else receives the difference. Also written "Off the low player".
OutingThe container for a game or a weekend: roster, rounds, games and money.
Participation pointsSeason points for playing a week regardless of finish. Default 5.
Playing HandicapCourse Handicap times the allowance, rounded once, then off low if the game uses it. It decides the stroke dots on your card.
Plus handicapBetter than scratch, written +2. A plus player gives strokes back on the easiest holes.
PotA pooled prize funded by entries. Winner take all unless the Commissioner sets paid places.
PressA new bet started when a side falls two down in Nassau or Sixes, running to the end of that nine or six.
ProvisionalA result that can still change: a skin the field has not finished, or a completed round not yet published.
PublishFreeze an official, numbered revision of a round's results and money. Also called finalize.
Recap (The Recap)A short post-round write-up in one of seven voices. The Commissioner's Recap is the longer roast.
ReopenUnlock a closed or published round for a correction, with a written reason.
Ringer ConfirmedA course whose scorecard a Commissioner has checked against the printed card.

Round HubThe home screen for a round: roster, readiness, invite tools, Manage and the board.
RSVPA player's answer to an invite: in, maybe or out.
Run it backCreate next week's round from a finished one, with the same course, tee time, players and games.

SeasonA league's run of weeks with one set of scoring rules and one standings table.
Settle upWho owes whom after the round, netted across every game.
Side betA head-to-head bet between two named players, settled directly.

StandingsA league season's ranking by points, also called the Table. Recomputed from each week's final result.
Stroke indexThe 1 to 18 ranking of hole difficulty on the card. Strokes go to the lowest numbers first.
Tail pointsSeason points for any finish below the placement list. Default 5.
Tie-breakThe rule that orders exact ties when a round is completed: ties stand, USGA / WHS last 9-6-3-1, or countback by stroke index.
TrashSide awards that ride alongside the main game: greenies, sandies, gross birdie or better, barkies, chippies and polies.
Verified handicapAn index imported from a GHIN card or entered by a Commissioner. A self-entered index shows as "est." until confirmed.
WeekOne round in a league season. Golfers see it as a round; the commissioner sees it as a week.
