  3. Import your index from a GHIN card screenshot

Short answer. Ringer reads your index off a screenshot of the GHIN app's My Card screen. It is not a live connection to GHIN. You take the screenshot, Ringer reads the printed numbers, you confirm them, and your index is saved as verified.

Steps

  1. In the GHIN app, tap More, then My Card, and take a screenshot of that screen. Do not crop it.
  2. In Ringer, open Profile → Settings and tap "Import from GHIN" (or "Update from GHIN" if you already have an index).
  3. Choose the screenshot. You will see "Reading your card…" for a moment.
  4. A sheet titled "Here's what we found" shows your index in large type, labelled "Ringer Index", plus your name (editable), your club, your GHIN number and a line such as "Read 20 rounds from your GHIN card."
  5. Check the numbers against your card. Tap "Looks right" to save, or "Cancel" to discard.

How it works

  • Ringer transcribes what is printed on the card: your name, club, association, GHIN number, Handicap Index, Low Handicap Index and its date, the scores-posted count, the current date, and the 20-score grid. It calculates nothing from those scores. Your index is saved exactly as printed.
  • After "Looks right", your Profile shows the number under Official Handicap with the status "Verified ✓". The 20 recent scores become a history strip on your Player Card. They are not turned into Ringer rounds, because the card has no course names, ratings or exact dates.
  • Ringer only accepts the My Card screen. Any other screen from the GHIN app, including My Profile, is rejected outright and nothing from it is read or kept.
  • A GHIN number is kept as 6 to 10 digits. The index must fall within +10 to 54.

Good to know

  • There is no automatic refresh. When your GHIN index changes, run "Update from GHIN" again with a fresh screenshot. Re-importing replaces the index on file.
  • You can read up to 12 cards per hour.
  • If you later type a number by hand in the Handicap field, that manual number replaces the imported one and the verified badge comes off.
  • Ringer handicaps are not official. Importing your GHIN card brings your official number in, but the handicaps Ringer then calculates for your games are Ringer's own.

If it doesn't work

  • "That doesn't look like your GHIN card. In the GHIN app, tap More, then My Card — then screenshot that." The screenshot was not the My Card screen. Go back to the GHIN app and capture that screen.
  • "The card was too blurry to read. Try a fresh screenshot without cropping." Neither an index nor any scores could be read. Take a new, full-screen screenshot.
  • "That's a lot of cards in a short time — try again in a bit." You have hit the limit of 12 reads in an hour. Wait and try again.
  • "Couldn't read that screenshot (NNN). Try again in a moment." A temporary problem on Ringer's side while reading. Retry shortly.
  • "Please sign in to import your card." or "Please sign in to save your handicap." Your session has ended. Sign in and try again.
  • "Add the name your crew should see." The name on the confirm sheet is blank. Type a name before tapping "Looks right".
  • "Card import isn't set up yet — add ANTHROPIC_API_KEY in the environment." Card reading is not configured on this Ringer deployment. Enter your index by hand instead and let whoever runs your Ringer know.
