  3. Your Profile and Settings

Short answer. Your Profile is behind the avatar in the top-right corner of Today, Rounds, Club and Improve. Settings is the icon in the top-right of the Profile page. Profile is where your handicap and crews are shown; Settings is where you change things.

How it works

Profile shows:

  • Your photo, name and home club (or "Add your home club in Settings").
  • Official Handicap: your index, whether it is Not connected, Verified or Player supplied, and when it was last updated. See form and performance in Your Game opens Improve.
  • Account: a link to Settings and your email.
  • Affiliations: up to three of your crews.

Settings (Profile → Settings) has these sections:

  1. Player details. Your Email (read-only, it is your sign-in), Display name ("The name other golfers see across Ringer."), Home club, and Handicap. Tap + next to the handicap for a plus handicap. Import from GHIN or Update from GHIN reads a screenshot of your GHIN card and fills the index for you. Tap Save player details; you will see "Player details saved".
  2. Notifications. What Ringer emails, texts or pushes to you. See Notification preferences.
  3. Security. Enter a New password (minimum 8 characters) and tap Update password.
  4. Account. Sign out and Delete account.

Steps

To change your profile photo:

  1. Open Profile and tap the avatar.
  2. Choose a JPEG, PNG or WebP image up to 5 MB.
  3. The new photo replaces the old one straight away.

Good to know

  • Typing a handicap by hand marks it Player supplied and removes any Verified badge. Importing from GHIN sets it exactly as printed on your card and marks it verified.
  • Your email cannot be changed in the app. Email support@ringer.golf if you need to move an account to a new address.
  • There is no field for your mobile number in Settings. It comes from how you were invited or registered, or from signing in with a texted code.
  • Your Venmo handle is entered at settle-up on a round with money, not in Settings.
  • If you are on a game's roster as a guest and the host set a photo for you, that photo becomes yours once you claim the spot.

If it doesn't work

  • "Name can't be empty." Display name is required.
  • "Enter a valid handicap index from +10 to 54 (or leave blank)." Check the number and the + toggle.
  • "Not signed in." Your session ended. Sign in and try again.
  • "Password must be at least 8 characters." Choose a longer one.
  • "Choose a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image up to 5 MB." / "Choose a JPG, PNG, or WebP image." / "Choose an image smaller than 5 MB." The photo is the wrong type or too large. Export a smaller JPEG and try again.
  • "That file does not match its image type." The file extension does not match its contents. Re-save the image from your photos app.
  • "We couldn't save that image. Please try again." / "We couldn't prepare your profile image." A momentary error. Try again.
  • "That doesn't look like your GHIN card. In the GHIN app, tap More, then My Card — then screenshot that." / "The card was too blurry to read. Try a fresh screenshot without cropping." Take a fresh, full-card screenshot.
  • "That's a lot of cards in a short time — try again in a bit." GHIN reads are limited to 12 an hour.
