- Notification preferences and the iPhone permission
Short answer. Go to Profile → Settings → Notifications. Turn each kind of notification and each delivery channel on or off, tap Save notifications, and you are done. Everything starts on. A notification is sent only when both its kind and its channel are on. Push needs the iPhone app and the phone's permission.
Steps
- Open Profile → Settings → Notifications.
- Under the kinds, choose what you want:
- Invites, "Game, league, and trip invitations".
- Round reminders, "Tee times and upcoming rounds".
- RSVP confirmations, "A receipt when you respond".
- Results and money, "Final results and settlement updates".
- Under delivery, choose how:
- Push notifications, timely app updates. iPhone app only.
- Text messages, urgent updates and the fallback when push is unavailable.
- Email, full details and a lasting record.
- Tap Save notifications. You will see "Notification preferences saved".
How it works
- A send requires both the kind and the channel. Turn off Text messages and you will get no texts of any kind; turn off Round reminders and you will get no reminders by any channel.
- Crew-wide game texts use Round reminders plus Text messages.
- Only an explicit off is honored. If you have never saved preferences, everything is on.
- Guests who RSVP without an account have no preferences. STOP still applies to their texts.
- The onboarding choice to enable round reminders also switches the Push channel on.
The iPhone permission
At the top of the Notifications card, the iPhone app shows the phone's own permission state. It is separate from the Push channel below it; both need to be on.
- "Enable iPhone notifications." Tap it and allow the prompt. You will see "Permission granted. Ringer is registering this iPhone now."
- "iPhone notifications are on." This phone can receive alerts. Tap Send test notification to check; you should see "Test sent. Check your iPhone notifications."
- "iPhone notifications are blocked." Permission was declined. iOS will not ask again, so tap Open iPhone Settings, choose Ringer, and turn on Notifications.
- "Update the Ringer app." This build cannot receive push. Install the newest build.
Ringer asks for permission only when you tap to enable it, never on launch.
Test delivery
The Send test email and Send test text buttons send a real message to the contact details on your account. Tests never change your preferences. The status line shows "Live email and text delivery is enabled." or "Roster delivery is paused; signed-in self-tests still send." Success reads "Test email sent to a*@domain." or "Test text sent to *1234."
If it doesn't work
- "Turn on Push notifications below and save before testing." The Push channel is off. Turn it on, save, then test.
- "No registered iPhone was found. Reopen Ringer and try again." Fully close and reopen the app so it re-registers.
- "No mobile number is saved on your Ringer player record." Add a mobile number to your profile before testing texts.
- "This number opted out. Reply START to Ringer before testing again." You texted STOP earlier. Reply START to the Ringer number.
- "You've already sent a few tests. Try again later." Tests are rate-limited. Wait a while.
- "Email delivery is not configured in this environment." or "Text delivery is not configured in this environment." That channel is not set up on this deployment. Nothing to fix on your side.
