  3. Every notification Ringer sends and what triggers it

Short answer. Ringer sends notifications by email, by text, and by push on the iPhone app. Each one is set off by a specific action or by the daily reminder run. Nothing goes out just because you are in a crew. Text and push delivery depend on your carrier and your phone's permission, so treat them as a convenience rather than a guarantee; email is the lasting record.

How it works

Every email comes from "Ringer" at hello@ringer.golf. Each notification belongs to one of four kinds, and you can turn a kind or a channel off in Profile → Settings → Notifications. See Notification preferences and the iPhone permission.

The daily reminder run

Round reminders go out once a day at 12:00 UTC, about 8 AM Eastern. Each run looks at the calendar:

  • 2 days out. Anyone still marked invited gets the RSVP nudge.
  • 1 day out. Anyone marked in gets "You're playing tomorrow".
  • Day of. Anyone marked in gets "Today's round".

Each person gets each reminder once per channel. A game created the morning of the round will not get a day-before reminder, because that run has already passed. Whether reminders are running at all is set by the deployment, so a quiet inbox is not by itself a sign something is wrong.

Good to know

  • Push is iPhone-app only. The website and the home-screen version do not send push notifications, and there is no Android app. Text is the fallback when push is unavailable.
  • Texts need consent and carrier approval. See Text messages: consent, STOP, HELP, and RSVP by text.
  • Guests get reminders too, since they have no preferences to turn them off, but STOP always applies.
  • Crews do not send invitations. Joining a crew is by link, and no email goes out when you are added to one.
  • Every email carries Privacy and Terms links in its footer.
