  3. Text messages: consent, STOP, HELP, and RSVP by text

Short answer. Ringer can text you about the games you join, but only if you tick the consent box, and only if texting is enabled where you are. Texts are optional; you can RSVP and use every feature without them. Reply STOP to stop, START to resume, HELP for help, and IN, OUT or MAYBE to answer a game announcement.

How it works

Text messages are a recurring, automated program called "Ringer golf outing alerts". They cover RSVP confirmations, tee-time reminders, and live score and leaderboard updates for games you join. Message and data rates may apply; Ringer never charges for texts. Your number is never sold or shared for anyone else's marketing.

Delivery depends on carrier approval of the program and on your consent, so if texts are not enabled for your account or your league, everything still works by email and in the app.

The consent box appears on the RSVP form and on the text updates page at ringer.golf/text. It is unticked by default and reads:

By checking this box I agree to receive recurring automated text messages from Ringer about my golf outings (RSVP confirmations, tee times, and score updates). Consent is not a condition of using Ringer or of RSVPing — leave this unchecked and you can still RSVP and use every feature. Msg & data rates may apply. Msg frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.

On the text updates page, enter your US mobile number, tick the box, and tap Opt in to text updates. You will see "You're opted in ✅".

The keyword must be the first word. While opted out, anything else you send gets no reply.

RSVP by text

When a host sends the game by text, you get an announcement like "🏌️ Saturday Game — Pine Valley, Sat Oct 3, 8:10 AM. You in? Reply IN, OUT, or MAYBE (add your name, e.g. "IN – Andrew"). —Ringer".

  • Reply IN (also yes, y, yeah, yep, count me in, I'm in), OUT (no, n, nope, can't, cannot, skip), or MAYBE (mb, tentative, possibly, prob).
  • If the roster only has a placeholder for you, add your name after the word and Ringer uses it: "IN – Andrew".
  • Ringer confirms: "Andrew, you're in ⛳️. 6 in so far." The rest of the crew gets "Andrew is in ✅ — 6 playing. —Ringer".
  • Your reply is matched to the most recent game that texted your number.

If it doesn't work

  • "Didn't catch that — reply IN, OUT, or MAYBE. Add your name like "IN – Andrew"." Start your reply with one of those words.
  • "Enter a valid US mobile number." Ringer texts US mobile numbers only. See Valid US mobile number.
  • No texts arriving at all. Check that Text messages is on in Profile → Settings → Notifications, that you have not replied STOP, and that a mobile number is saved on your profile. See Not getting texts.
