- My score won't save
Short answer. Check the scorecard footer. If it says "N not saved · Retry", the score is queued on your phone and will go through when you have signal. If it says "Scores need review · Reload", reload the card and enter the correction again. Any other message tells you who can write that score or why the card is closed.
Why it happens
Every tap is queued on the device, sent with a 20-second deadline, and retried by itself with growing pauses (up to 30 seconds apart), on reconnect, when you return to the tab, and every 15 seconds. A score is written one cell at a time and only if nobody else changed that cell first, so two devices editing the same hole produce a review message rather than a silent overwrite. Once a round is closed, every write is refused until the Commissioner reopens it.
What to do
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Can't reach the server — check signal." / "N not saved · Retry" | No connection. The score is queued. | Keep the card open. Tap Retry once you have bars. |
| "You're offline — don't close this tab" (scorekeeper link) | The browser card is holding your scores locally. | Leave the tab open until every score shows Saved. |
| "Limited browser storage — Scores will still save online. Keep this scorecard open until every score shows Saved." | Private browsing or restricted storage. | Same as above. Do not close the tab mid-round. |
| "This device couldn't safely store the queued score. Keep Ringer open and tap Retry now before leaving the app." | The offline queue could not be written. | Tap Retry now, before switching apps. |
| "The score reached the server, but this device couldn't clear its recovery queue. Tap Retry now before closing Ringer." | Saved, but the phone still thinks it is pending. | Tap Retry. It will clear. |
| "Scores need review · Reload" with "A score changed before this device finished saving. Reload current scores, then enter any correction again." or "This hole changed on another device. Reload the card, check the current score, then enter your correction again." | Someone else wrote that cell first. | Reload, read what is there, re-enter only if it is wrong. |
| "Reload the card before saving this score." | Your card is stale. | Reload. |
| "A recovered score was queued by an older Ringer version and can't be safely auto-replayed. Re-enter that score to confirm it against the current card." | A queued score from before an update. | Enter that score again by hand. |
| "You can't enter this score." | Only the group's scorekeeper, the Commissioner or a co-organizer, or the player on their own card can write it. | Ask the scorekeeper, or score your own row. |
| "Choose Keep score above to record scores" / "Scoring was handed over. Refresh the card before making more changes." | On a league personal link, someone else holds the scorer role. | Tap Keep score to take it, or refresh. |
| "Only the assigned scorekeeper can enter this group's scores." / "The scoring group changed. Open Ringer to refresh the card." | Lock Screen scoring is limited to the scorekeeper. | Open the app and score there. |
| "Enter a valid stroke count." | Strokes must be 1 to 20. | Use the number pad. |
| "This round is closed. The commissioner can reopen it from the round hub to make changes." | Scoring is closed or results are published. | See Reopen a round. |
| "Scoring opens 15 min before your 8:15 AM tee time." | Tee-time lock. | Tap "We're going early". See Going early. |
If none of these appear and the check next to the player never turns solid, close the app fully and reopen; queued scores are restored with "Restoring scorecard…".
