Short answer. Keep scoring. Ringer queues every tap on your phone, retries on its own, and sends the scores when you get signal back. The only rule: keep the scorecard open until every score shows a ✓ and, if the footer offers Retry, tap it before you put the phone away.
How it works
- Autosave. Each tap goes into a queue. Rapid changes to the same cell are folded together after about 650 ms so one score is written, not five.
- Saved on the device. The queue is stored on the phone, so if the app is killed or the page reloads, the unsaved cells come back. You will see "Restoring scorecard…" and then "Offline scores restored · More".
- Retries. A failed save retries with a growing delay (1 second, doubling, up to 30 seconds), again when the connection returns, when you come back to the tab, and every 15 seconds regardless. Each save has a 20-second deadline before it is retried; on the browser scorekeeper link the request itself gives up at 15 seconds.
- Footer states. "Saving N…" while writes are in flight; "N not saved · Retry" when saves are failing; "N saved offline · More" when scores are safe on the device and waiting; "Scores need review · Reload" when the server has rejected something for good.
- Scorekeeper link banners. "You're offline — don't close this tab", "Limited browser storage — Scores will still save online. Keep this scorecard open until every score shows Saved.", and "✓ N scores saved offline · Safe on this device · will sync automatically when connected".
Steps
- Score normally. Do not wait for signal between holes.
- Glance at the footer now and then. "Saving" and "saved offline" are fine.
- If it says "N not saved · Retry", tap Retry when you have a bar or two.
- Before closing the app at the turn or in the car park, confirm every player shows ✓ saved.
Good to know
- The board and other groups only see your scores once they reach the server. A group scoring offline can look "behind" on the leaderboard until it syncs.
- After an app update, a stale page may reload itself once automatically. Your queued scores survive that reload.
If it doesn't work
- "Can't reach the server — check signal." No connection right now. Ringer keeps retrying; nothing is lost.
- "This device couldn't safely store the queued score. Keep Ringer open and tap Retry now before leaving the app." The phone refused to store the queue (often private browsing or full storage). Stay on the card and tap Retry until it saves.
- "The score reached the server, but this device couldn't clear its recovery queue. Tap Retry now before closing Ringer." The score is safe online; tap Retry so the phone can tidy up.
- "A recovered score was queued by an older Ringer version and can't be safely auto-replayed. Re-enter that score to confirm it against the current card." Enter that score again by hand.
- "A score changed before this device finished saving. Reload current scores, then enter any correction again." Another device wrote the same cell first. Reload, check it, and correct if needed. See Who can change a score.
- "Scores need review · Reload" in the footer. Tap Reload and review the flagged holes.
