  3. Who can do what: Commissioner, co-organizers, scorekeepers, players

Short answer. The person who creates the round is its Commissioner (also called host or organizer). They can name up to 2 co-organizers who get the same management tools. Each group has one scorekeeper who records that group's scores. Everyone else is a player who can enter their own scores.

Commissioner

The primary host. Everything on the round is theirs to manage. Only the Commissioner can add or remove co-organizers, delete the outing, or switch their own playing status with "I'm not playing — take me off" and "Add me as a player". The Commissioner can't be removed from their own round.

Co-organizers

Manage → Co-organizers → Make co-organizer on any roster row that shows "Ringer account linked". A row marked "Needs account" can't be promoted until that person has signed in to Ringer once. Maximum two. Removing a co-organizer from the roster also removes their role.

Scorekeeper

One per group. For a single group Ringer picks the host if playing, otherwise the first player. With several groups the organizer chooses one per group in Manage → Scorekeepers. A scorekeeper can enter scores for everyone in their own group, in the app or through the scorekeeper link. See Assign a scorekeeper.

Player

Anyone on the roster. Players can always enter and correct their own score, RSVP, and follow the board. They see "Waiting for the host to start" until the round goes live.

Good to know

  • A Commissioner who isn't playing still runs the round. They just aren't on the roster, teams or scorecard.
  • If the host was a group's scorekeeper and steps off the roster, the role passes to a remaining member of that group, preferring one with a Ringer account.
  • League roles are separate. See League roles.

If it doesn't work

  • "Only the primary host can set co-organizers." Co-organizers can't promote others. Ask the Commissioner.
  • "That player needs to sign in to Ringer once before they can co-organize." Have them create an account or sign in, then try again.
  • "You can have at most 2 co-organizers." Remove one before adding another.
  • "You're already the host." You can't make yourself a co-organizer.
  • "Only the commissioner can add players." / "Only the commissioner can set groups." / "Only the commissioner can open or close a round." You're a player on this round, not an organizer.
  • "You can't enter this score." You're not this group's scorekeeper, not an organizer, and it isn't your card.
  • "Couldn't update co-organizers — please try again." A save failed. Retry.
