Who keeps score: assigning a scorekeeper

Every group needs one scorekeeper before the round can start. One group is picked for you, several groups are picked by the Commissioner

  3. Who keeps score: assigning a scorekeeper

Short answer. Each group has exactly one scorekeeper, the person who keeps the card for everyone in that group. With a single group, Ringer picks one automatically. With more than one group, the Commissioner chooses a scorekeeper for each group in Manage before the round can start.

How it works

  • One group. Ringer assigns the host if the host is playing, otherwise the first player in the group. Nothing to do.
  • Several groups. Open Manage → Scorekeepers and pick one golfer per group. The screen explains it the same way: "For one group, Ringer automatically picks the host when they're playing, or the first player otherwise. For multiple groups, choose one golfer in each group to keep the card."
  • If you let Ringer auto-assign groups, the first member of each group is set as that group's scorekeeper. You can change any of them afterwards.

The scorekeeper is the only person who needs to touch the phone during the round. They can score in the app, or through a no-login scorekeeper link if they would rather not sign in.

Steps

  1. Open the outing and go to Manage.
  2. Set up groups and tee times first. Scorekeepers are chosen per group, so groups come first.
  3. Open Scorekeepers and choose one player in each group.
  4. Return to the Round Hub. The readiness checklist should no longer show a scorekeeper blocker.

Who can do this

The Commissioner and co-organizers assign scorekeepers. Players cannot choose themselves in the app, but on personal league scoring links a player can claim the role with Keep score.

Good to know

  • A scorekeeper can enter scores for anyone in their group. Any Commissioner or co-organizer can enter scores for any group, and every player can always enter their own score. See Who can change a score.
  • The scorekeeper is required only when the round has more than one player and more than one group. A solo round or a single group never asks for one.

If it doesn't work

  • "Assign a scorekeeper to start." The Round Hub checklist is waiting on at least one group with no scorekeeper. Open Manage → Scorekeepers and fill the gap.
  • "Assign a scorekeeper to each group before starting." or "Choose a scorekeeper in Groups & pairings, then start the round." Same cause, shown when you tap Start. Pick a scorekeeper for every group, then start again.
  • "Assign a scorekeeper in Groups & pairings, then start the round." The check happened at save time and found a group without one. Assign it and retry.
