Short answer. Ringer builds groups for you when you create a round: groups of up to four in roster order, starting every 10 minutes from your opening time. Change them on the Your groups screen during creation, or later in Round Hub → Manage → Groups & tee times. Every player must be in a group before the round can start.

Steps

During creation

  1. On Your groups, Ringer says "We made N groups from M players" and "Starting every 10 min".
  2. To move a player, tap the grip icon → Move [name] → choose a group.
  3. Change any group's tee time. Editing the opening time re-flows the later groups unless you've set a group's time by hand.
  4. Give every player a tee, then continue. See Choose tees.

After creation

  1. Round Hub → Manage → Groups & tee times (or the readiness row "Groups & pairings → Set groups").
  2. Tap + to add an empty group. Tap Edit › on a group to set its Tee time, Group tee, per-player tees, share the scorekeeper link, or Remove group.
  3. Tap a player, then Move here on another group.
  4. Lock a group to keep those players together when you auto-assign.

Auto-assign

  • Auto-assign groups fills groups in roster order and makes the first member of each group the scorekeeper.
  • Auto-assign with pairings offers group size 3 or 4 and a mode: Recommended ("Honor requests, crews, tees and variety."), Balanced handicaps ("Keep each group's handicap spread tighter.") or Fresh mix ("Strongly minimize repeat playing partners."). Preview shows repeated partners and max handicap gap before you tap Apply pairings. Locked players stay put.
  • Use game teams as groups copies the game's teams into groups. Every team must have exactly four players.

How it works

  • Setting a group's tee time renumbers groups first-out-first: the earliest time becomes Group 1, and groups without a time sort last.
  • Scoring opens 15 minutes before each group's tee time. A group without a time is never locked. See Scoring opens at tee time.
  • Shotgun starts with assigned starting holes are set up in league and event setup, not in a regular round's Manage screen.
  • Groups are pairings for the day. Competition teams for a team game are separate and live under Manage → Teams.

Who can do this

Organizers only (Commissioner and co-organizers).

If it doesn't work

  • "Set groups for every player before starting." Someone is unassigned. Add them to a group or auto-assign.
  • "Choose a tee for the player / all N players before continuing." Every player on a listed course needs a tee before you leave the groups screen.
  • "Remove Group N? Players in this group become unassigned. Their scores are not deleted." A confirmation, not an error. Reassign those players afterwards.
  • "No one is in yet." / "No one is available for this round." Nobody on the roster is marked in, so there's no one to assign.
  • "Game teams must all have exactly four players before replacing groups." Fix the team sizes under Manage → Teams first.
  • "Only the commissioner can set groups." You're not an organizer on this round.
  • "Group not found." / "Unknown group." The group was removed on another device. Reload.
