Choose tees for the round and for each player

Set one tee for everyone with Tee setup, then adjust individuals in their rows; tees drive Course Handicap and are frozen when the round starts

Short answer. On the Your groups screen, tap Tee setup to give everyone one tee, then change any player's tee in their own row. Every player on a listed course needs a tee before the round can start.

Steps

  1. On Your groups (step 4 of Play golf), tap Tee setup. The prompt reads "Choose one verified tee for everyone, then adjust exceptions in their rows."
  2. Pick a tee. Tees are listed under Men's tees and Women's tees, longest first, each showing yards, rating and slope, for example "6,512 yd · Rating 71.3 · Slope 128".
  3. For anyone playing a different tee, tap the Tee needed / [tee name] picker on their row and choose.
  4. Continue. If anyone is still missing a tee you'll see "Choose a tee for the player / all N players before continuing."

How it works

  • A player's tee is resolved in this order: their individual tee, then their group's tee, then their saved Up tees preference (which maps to the course's forward tee), then the round's default tee.
  • The forward tee is the shortest men's tee on the course, regardless of the player's gender.
  • Tee, rating and slope feed the handicap chain: Index → Course Handicap → allowance → Playing Handicap → off low → hole strokes. See Course and playing handicap.
  • When the round starts, every handicap is frozen against the tee each player was assigned.

Who can do this

  • During creation, the person building the round.
  • After creation, only an organizer (Commissioner or co-organizer) can set the round tee, a group tee or a player tee, from Manage → Groups & tee times → Edit ›. Per-player tees offer "Use group tee"; a group can use "Round default".

Good to know

  • Changing a tee after creation re-freezes only the affected players' handicaps, not the whole field.
  • On a live round, correcting a tee asks "Correct the played tee for this live round? Ringer will recalculate and replace the frozen stroke map in the same transaction. Scores stay intact."
  • A round with no listed course (created via Course not listed?) has no tees to choose.

If it doesn't work

  • "No verified tees are available for this course yet. Ringer will not guess." The course has no usable tee on file. Add the scorecard with rating and slope first. See My course isn't listed or has no scorecard.
  • "Choose a tee for every player before starting the round." Someone was left without a tee. Open Manage → Groups & tee times and assign one.
  • "That tee isn't on this course." or "That tee does not belong to this round's course." The tee belongs to another course, usually after the course was changed. Pick again from the current list.
  • "This round is finalized. Reopen it before correcting a tee." Tees can't change on a final round. See Reopen a round.
  • "Pairings changed while Ringer was recalculating handicaps. Reload and apply the tee correction again." Someone edited groups at the same moment. Reload and retry.
