Short answer. Confirm the field first, then open the week's Playing groups. Ringer prepares groups for review, you arrange and edit them, and you publish. A prepared review lasts 20 minutes, and publishing emails every player a personal scoring link.

Steps

  1. Open Club → your league → Manage → the week → Playing groups.
  2. Prepare. Choose a group size (1 to 8) and a tee interval (5 to 30 minutes). Ringer pulls in pairing history and any pairing preferences from signups, then writes a review you have 20 minutes to publish.
  3. Arrange. Pick a mode:
    • Fresh. Ringer tries many layouts, balancing handicaps, honoring pairing requests and avoiding repeat pairs (penalized harder when a golfer asked for new people).
    • Random. A straight shuffle.
    • Manual. Place players yourself. You can lock a group, undo, and mark someone who can't play.
  4. Edit. Choose one or two starting waves. A second wave starts 1 to 720 minutes after the first, on the same day. Each group needs its own valid tee time and, within a wave, its own starting hole. Optionally name a registered player in each group as scorekeeper, or let the group choose.
  5. Publish. Ringer saves the groups and sends each player their scoring link by email. See Scoring links and printable scorecards.

How it works

  • Nassau and Match Play games can't start mid-nine. Groups must start at hole 1, or hole 10 in an 18-hole round.
  • More groups than holes needs explicit waves.
  • Publishing again after publication (a redraft) needs a reason of up to 1,000 characters and is blocked once play starts.
  • If the field changes after publication, the checklist shows "The field changed since groups were published". Republish to rebuild against who's in now.

Who can do this

Commissioner or co-commissioner.

If it doesn't work

  • "Confirm the field before setting up groups." / "Players must RSVP in before groups can be created." The field comes first.
  • "Group size must be between 1 and 8." / "Group {n} needs between 1 and 8 players."
  • "Review the Round's hole count first." Set 9 or 18 holes on the week.
  • "Scores are already in — this round is underway." / "Play has started or the season is closed. These groups cannot be replaced here." Too late to regroup.
  • "Nassau and Match Play cannot start mid-nine. Edit groups to start at Hole 1, or Hole 10 for an 18-hole Round."
  • "Every available player must be assigned. Review the latest field." / "The field changed or a player is assigned twice. Review the latest field." Refresh and arrange again.
  • "Each group needs a different valid tee time." / "Each group needs a different valid starting hole in this wave."
  • "Enter a second-wave offset between 1 and 720 minutes." / "The second wave must start on the same day. Review the Round time and offset."
  • "This review expired. Cancel and prepare a new review." More than 20 minutes passed; prepare again.
  • "This round changed after review. Cancel and review the latest field and groups." Start the review over.
  • "Add a reason for replacing the published groups." / "Keep the reason within 1,000 characters." Redrafts need a reason.
  • "Could not confirm group publication. Retry this review to recover its outcome." / "The connection was interrupted. Retry this review to recover its outcome." Retry the same review.
