Short answer. Finishing a round is two steps. Close scoring locks every scorecard and moves the round to REVIEW with provisional results. Publish final results freezes the official result, so leaderboards, payouts, share links and season records stop being provisional. Only the Commissioner or a co-organizer can do either.
Steps
1. Close scoring
- In Manage, tap Close scoring (or Complete & settle).
- If any card is short, Ringer says so: "Finish every card first — X/Y complete. Still missing holes: [names]. (Or finalize anyway to override.)" You can go back and finish, or confirm Close scoring anyway. The confirmation warns: "Closing anyway locks score entry and marks the round complete. Results remain provisional until you use Finalize results."
- Look for the toast "Scoring closed · results still provisional". The Round Hub now shows REVIEW with Review & publish for you and View results preview for players.
From this moment every score write is refused with "This round is closed. The commissioner can reopen it from the round hub to make changes."
2. Publish final results
- Open Results and tap "Publish final results" (also Manage → Finalize results). If a contest is undecided the button reads "Award contests to publish"; award it or choose No winner in the Scoring Center first.
- Confirm: "Finalize these results? This freezes the current result as official so leaderboards and payouts stop being provisional. Check missing cards and handicaps first."
- You will see "Results published." (or "Standings updated for N players." in a league).
How it works
- Publishing stores an official snapshot: standings, each game's pot and per-player winnings, matches, honors, contest decisions and the settlement transfers. Money is read from that snapshot afterwards, never recalculated.
- Settlement mode and the banker cannot change once published. Results flip from "Results preview" to "Final · Revision N".
- A correction later goes through Reopen a round; republishing asks "Publish corrected results? This replaces the current official snapshot with revision N+1…".
What must be true before publishing
The gate depends on the games in play. The first blocker is shown:
- Per-hole games (stroke, Stableford, skins) need every hole from every player.
- Match games only need each match decided.
- Net games need a handicap index for every player. A missing index is never treated as scratch.
If it doesn't work
- "No scores entered yet — there's nothing to finalize." Nothing to close yet.
- "Only the commissioner can open or close a round." / "Only the commissioner can finalize." Manager only.
- "N players haven't finished — need all 18 holes." Finish the cards or reopen and fix them.
- "N matches are still on the course." Play the matches out.
- "N players have no handicap index — a net game can't settle without it." Add the index in Manage.
- "Contest awards changed. Review them in the Scoring Center before publishing again." Re-check the contests and publish again.
- "Nothing to finalize on this round." No result could be built; check that scores and games exist.
- "The scoring engine could not freeze a trustworthy official scorecard. Resolve the round scores and handicaps, then publish again." Fix the scores or handicaps it points at.
- "Finalization revision storage isn't set up yet." A deployment issue; contact whoever runs your Ringer.
- "Round results were published, but season standings were not updated. … The previous official standings remain intact." The round is final; league standings need republishing from the league.
