Short answer. When the player you owe has added a Venmo handle, your settle-up row shows a "Venmo" button. Tap it and Venmo opens with the amount and a note already filled in. Pay there, then come back and mark the row paid.
Steps
- Open the round's Results and find your row in settle-up.
- Tap "Venmo" (on the Board's money tab the button reads "Pay {Name} · Venmo").
- Venmo opens with the amount and a note such as "Ringer · Saturday Game". Complete the payment in Venmo.
- Back in Ringer, tap "Mark paid". See Mark a payment as paid.
How it works
- Only the payee's handle matters. Ringer builds the link from the handle of the person receiving the money. The payer does not need a handle to pay.
- Ringer only pre-fills. Nothing is sent, charged, or confirmed from Ringer. The payment is between the two players inside Venmo.
- The button is shown to the payer and to the Commissioner, and never on read-only or share-link views.
Adding your handle
On the Board's money tab, a row that needs a handle reads "+ Add {Name}'s @venmo", or "waiting on {Name}'s @venmo" if you are the one waiting. Add yours and it shows as ✓ @handle with a pencil to edit. A leading @ and any spaces are stripped for you. Players can set only their own handle; the Commissioner can set anyone's.
Who can do this
Any player can add their own Venmo handle and pay a row they owe. The Commissioner can add a handle for anyone and can use the pay button on any row.
Good to know
- If you gave a Venmo handle on a trip or outing intake form, it may not appear on settle-up rows. Add it again from the money tab if a row is still waiting on it.
- Venmo is the only pay link Ringer builds. There is no Cash App, Zelle, or PayPal button.
- Your handle is stored with your spot on that outing, alongside amounts owed. Ringer never stores card or bank details.
If it doesn't work
- No Venmo button on the row. The player you owe has not added a handle, you are viewing a share link, or the row is already paid. Ask them to add it from the money tab.
- "You can only set your own Venmo." Only the Commissioner can set another player's handle.
- "Player not found." The player is no longer on the outing. Refresh and try again.
- Venmo opens with the wrong amount. Refresh Results. If a score was corrected, the amount may have changed; the row will refuse with "That amount changed from $A to $B. Refresh before paying." when you mark it paid.
