Short answer. While a round is live, players on the same score share a position (shown as "T2"). When the round is completed, Ringer applies the round's tie-break setting to the final positions. Money never depends on the tie-break: tied winners always split what the tie spans.
How it works
On the live board
The board ranks by score and groups ties: positions run 1, 1, 3 and print as "T1". No stretch or countback is applied while anyone is still on the course.
At Completed
The round's tieBreak setting decides exact ties among active players. Players who withdrew or did not finish rank below the active field.
| Setting | Label on screen | How it breaks a tie |
|---|---|---|
| Retain (default) | "Ties stand (split points and purse)" | The tie stays. Both keep the shared position. |
| USGA / WHS | "USGA / WHS — last 9, 6, 3, 1 holes" | Compare the last 9 holes, then last 6, last 3, then the last hole. |
| Countback | "Countback — last 9, 6, 3, 1 holes by stroke index" | Same stretches, using each hole's net as the strokes fall by stroke index. |
Under USGA / WHS, net on a stretch is gross on the stretch less a share of the Playing Handicap: half for the last 9, a third for 6, a sixth for 3, and one eighteenth for the last hole, rounded .5 up before deducting. A Playing Handicap of 9 deducts 5 over the last nine; 5 deducts 3. Stableford compares points on the same stretches, higher wins. The stretches are always the last holes of the card whatever hole you started on. If the stretches cannot separate the players they keep a shared position, and the board names the stretch that decided any broken tie ("last 9").
How it's calculated
How money handles ties
- Winner-take-all pots (Pot (Stroke), Stableford, Team Best-Ball) split the pot equally among everyone tied for the lead, cent-exact. Any odd cent goes to the earlier-listed player.
- Ranked payout plans pool the places the tie spans and split them evenly. Two players tied for 1st in a 50/30/20 plan share 80% and the next player takes 3rd.
- Skins: a tie for low on a hole means nobody wins it. With carryovers on, the value rolls to the next outright winner; with carryovers off the skin dies.
- Match Play, Nassau, Sixes: a halved hole moves nothing; a match finishing all square pays nothing.
- 9-Point: tied positions average their points (4/4/1 for a tie for low, 5/2/2 for a tie for high, 3/3/3 all square).
- Team Best-Ball: a tie for the counting ball inside a team shares the credit on the contributions panel.
Worked example: $10 entry, four players, $40 pot. Two players tie for low net. Each is paid $20, so each is +$10 for the day and the other two are −$10 each.
Who can do this
The Commissioner sets the tie-break on the round or outing. It can be changed before the round is completed; the setting is applied at completion.
Good to know
- Trip standings share a position on ties; no tie-break is applied across rounds.
- Contests such as Closest to the Pin have one recorded winner, so they cannot tie.
