A player shows no net score on the board

That player has no handicap index for this round, so Ringer scores them gross only. It never assumes scratch. Add the index, or play the game gross

  3. A player shows no net score on the board

Short answer. The player had no Handicap Index on file when the round went live. Ringer will not invent a scratch handicap, so it scores that ball gross only. Before the round starts, add the index from the roster. After the round has started, see A player I added mid-round has no handicap.

Why it happens

A player with no index is "unhandicapped", not scratch. The scorecard shows "No PH" next to their name, the roster shows "No index", and the round's Handicap analysis reads "No handicap resolved — no Handicap Index on file" with the note that the player "scores gross only; nothing is assumed."

Each net game treats that ball the same way: absent.

  • Pot (Stroke): the player is listed after everyone with a handicap. On the live board their gross may appear in the net column; that is display only, and they are not competing for the net pot.
  • Stableford: no points.
  • Skins played net: not in the field; the board lists them as unhandicapped.
  • Match Play and Nassau played net: the match is blocked and no money moves.
  • 9-Point and Sixes: the hole stays pending.

Handicaps are frozen the moment the round goes live, so adding the index after the start does not change the card by itself.

What to do

  1. Before the round starts, tap the "+ HCP" chip on the player's roster row and type the index ("+2 or 12"; type + for a plus handicap). An index the Commissioner enters counts as verified. You can also open Manage → Players and use "+ Add index".
  2. Or ask the player to add it themselves: Profile (top-right avatar) → Settings → Player details → Handicap, or Import from GHIN. A self-entered index shows as "· est." on the roster until the Commissioner confirms it.
  3. If the round is already live, adding the index is not enough on its own. Follow A player I added mid-round has no handicap, which re-freezes the round's handicaps.
  4. If the player genuinely has no handicap, switch the game to gross: Round Hub → Manage → Money games → Configure › → How should we score? → Gross. A net game with money on it will not start while a player in it has no index; the message reads "… needs a handicap index before this net money game can start — otherwise they'd play scratch. Add it from the roster."

Valid indexes run from +10 to 54. Anything outside that range returns "Enter a valid handicap index like +2 or 12 (or clear it)."
