Short answer. Open www.ringer.golf in your phone's browser and add it to your home screen. On iPhone that is Safari's Share button, then Add to Home Screen. On Android it is the browser menu, then Install or Add to Home screen. Ringer then opens full-screen from its own icon, with the same account and data as everywhere else.
Steps
iPhone (Safari)
- Open www.ringer.golf in Safari and sign in.
- Tap the Share icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Scroll the sheet and tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
- Open Ringer from the new icon. It launches on Today.
Android (Chrome)
- Open www.ringer.golf in Chrome and sign in.
- Tap the browser menu (three dots).
- Tap Install app or Add to Home screen, then confirm.
- Open Ringer from the icon.
Desktop (Chrome or Edge)
Open www.ringer.golf and use the install icon at the right end of the address bar, or the browser menu's install option. Ringer opens in its own window.
How it works
- After you have used Ringer in a browser for a bit, a card titled "Add Ringer to your home screen" appears. On iPhone it explains "Tap the Share icon ⬆️, then Add to Home Screen." Elsewhere it says "Launches full-screen, like an app — no App Store needed." with Install and Not now. Tap Not now and it stays out of your way; it also never appears while you are setting up a game.
- The card does not appear once Ringer is installed, or inside the iPhone app.
- The installed version is the live site, so it is always current. See The app looks out of date if it ever seems behind.
Good to know
- There is no Android app in the Play Store. The home-screen install is the Android app.
- On iPhone, the home-screen version cannot receive push notifications; only the iPhone app can. Text and email notifications work the same either way. See The iOS app and the website are the same Ringer.
- Ringer needs a connection. If you lose signal you will see "You're offline — Ringer needs a connection to load. Check your signal and try again — your scores are safe." with Try again. Scores you already entered are safe.
- Your sign-in lives in that browser, so if you signed in on Safari and install from Chrome, you will sign in again once.
